Car Accident Leaves State Trooper Injured
In a hit and run car accident that occurred late morning on Friday, January 21, a Florida state trooper was conducting a crash investigation in the median of I-95 when he was struck.
Boca Raton dump truck driver, 64-year-old Roberto Carmona-Pena, was driving down the interstate when he veered into the next lane, causing 30-year-old Ryan D. Burns to swing his Toyota Camry to the side in an attempt to avoid a collision.
Burns, however, was unable to completely avoid the incident and instead ended up colliding with the rear end of 52-year-old Theodore Menner's patrol car.
Carmona-Pena then took off, leaving Menner trapped inside of his vehicle. Rescuers were finally able to free him after utilizing the Jaws of Life; he was later transported to Memorial Regional Hospital where he was treated for his wounds. Burns also received treatment for minor injuries there.
